May Le ‘15 recently visited Emmanuel to talk to the CHEM-3108 – Instrumental Methods of Analysis class about her job with Harpoon Brewery. The class is collaborating with May to help her team measure levels of a flavor chemical called Diacetyl in fermenting beer.
Harpoon Brewery is located in the South End and was formed by three friends Dan Kenary, Rich Doyle, and George Ligeti. This trio loved the experience of drinking beer together and traveled throughout Europe in search for new and tasteful types of beer. Their journey across Europe inspired them to start a brewery in Boston. In June of 1987, Harpoon Brewery was built on the waterfront of Northern Avenue.
